What This Blog Is All About

Published by jweissman at 10:29 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Welcome to the education law blog!

There are so many different areas of law that enter our public schools today.  Our children are protected by federal and state civil rights laws, laws that protect the disabled and provide for special education, and laws that protect English language learners.

There are also school district policies, court cases and in some instances state and federal law that deal with issues such as discipline, dress codes and extra curricular activities.

These laws and policies exist to make sure that all of our children have the opportunity to benefit from public education.  While I believe that most educators have their students’ best interests at heart most of the time, I believe that it is a parent’s responsibility to ensure that his or her child be protected and receive the education that every child is entitled to receive.  It is my hope and my plan that this blog will help inform parents of their children’s rights and teach them how to protect those rights in a way that is friendly and cooperative with the child’s school.

Great idea for a blog! I can imagine how many people are frustrated with the education system but don’t know what their rights are. I look forward to popping by regularly!

    Cheers,
